Yesterday I had to take the car in for a service in North Melbourne. It was supposed to be just an oil change and general checkup (the old engine died a month ago and was replaced). However, on the way there, I was waiting at the intersection of Victoria St and Hoddle St, pulled up behind a million other cars. I went to take off when the lights went green, and the car broke down.

A truck driver saw what was happening and came to help me push the car into a side street, then this other guy appeared out of nowhere and helped too. The truck driver went off after moving the car, but the other guy stayed around to "help", and eventually the car started again and I got it to the mechanic's. I later found that the second guy had stolen all of the money out of my wallet.

As I was catching the train home, anticipating crawling into bed and spending a few hours alternately sleeping and hating humanity, my boss called. Apparently I was rostered on for a shift I didn't actually know about. So I went home to shower and change instead of sleep, and went to work.

It was possibly the best day of my life.
